Sam Fuld who currently plays for the Tampa Bay Rays as an
outfielder grew up having diabetes. Fuld was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at
the age of ten. He later met a diabetic major league pitcher, Bill Gullickson,
who inspired him to keep trying and working hard for a career in baseball
despite having diabetes. Fuld later went on the play baseball throughout high
school and college and was later drafted by the Chicago Cubs. Where he earned
the name “Super Sam” because of his aggressive defense.
Flud is a huge advocate on the benefits of physical activity
on your diabetes. He has even started a sports camp for children with Type 1
diabetes to promote kids to take control of their diabetes not let their
diabetes control them.
